5 Gratitude Activities for Thanksgiving

This Holiday season is unlike any other. While many of us are unable to spend special time with our family and loved ones, what we can do is acknowledge all that we’re thankful for this year. Focusing on the positive and starting conversations around gratitude is a great way to make the most out of the holidays. Here are five different activities the whole family can do safely at home on Thanksgiving this year.

Thankful Tree

Looking to add a new family tradition this Thanksgiving? This is a great one! Write out what you’re grateful for on a paper leaf cut-out and tape it to your ‘Thankful Tree’ print out. Save your tree and add new leaves each year. You’ll love seeing how your tree and what you’re thankful for changes year after year! Gratitude Scavenger Hunt

Ready to get creative? Make your own gratitude scavenger hunt by creating a list of things to find around your house that spark joy.

Here are a few examples:

  • Something that makes you happy
  • Something that makes you laugh
  • Something you like to eat
  • Something you can’t live without

Then, when you say ‘GO!’, everyone in your family will search the house for items they’re grateful for. You’ll love comparing what each person is thankful for this year! You can also download a Gratitude Scavenger Hunt HERE.

Thanksgiving Tic-Tac-Toe

Here’s a simple twist on a game you love that will help your family focus on gratitude this Thanksgiving. Download the Tic-Tac-Toe printout HERE that includes different conversation prompts about gratitude. Each time you put an ‘X’ or an ‘O’ on the board, you’ll answer the prompt. What a great way to have a conversation about thankfulness!

Mail a Hug

While many of us are staying home and not able to see our loved ones this year, we can still connect with them from afar. Sit down with your family and write a letter to the special people you’re missing this Thanksgiving. The personal letter is sure to put a smile on their face!

Chain of Gratitude

An oldie but a goodie! All you need for this activity is construction paper, scissors, a marker, and a stapler. Simply cut strips of the construction paper and pass them out to your family members. Each person will then write out different things they’re thankful for! Lastly, staple the strips of paper together to create a linked chain. Easy peasy! Decorate your house with your chain of gratitude and be reminded of everything you’re grateful for. See full directions HERE.
