The school year is coming to an end and summer is right around the corner. The panic of finding a summer nanny may be starting to set in, but fear not because we have created this handy guide to make your search quick, easy, and stress-free!
Start your search early
We recommend starting your search for a summer caregiver now. The earlier you start your search, the bigger selection of caregivers you’ll have to interview. Starting your search early makes it easier to find an available caregiver who fits your needs and is a great match for your family. Securing a summer nanny early also gives you time to figure out all of the details so you’ll feel at ease once summer comes.
Post a summer care job
This is a great way to search for a summer nanny if you’re pressed for time. Post your job to the Joshin Job Board and let caregivers come to you! When you have a job posted, caregivers can view your Care Plan and send you a message directly if they are interested in the job.
Here are a few things to include in your job posting:
- Hourly rate of pay
- Job description
- Type of support needed
- If your caregiver will need to provide transportation
- Days and times you’ll need care
- Any activities your loved one likes to do in the summer is always a great addition!
Reach out to caregivers near you
Your search for a summer nanny doesn’t have to stop at posting to the Joshin Job Board. The next step is to take some time looking through the list of caregivers available in your area. Read the bios in the caregiver profiles to find a caregiver or nanny that matches your family’s care needs this summer.
Here’s what to look for in caregiver profiles:
- Schedule availability
- Desired hourly rate
- Professional experience & certifications
- Disability specific experience
- Personal interests
- COVID-19 vaccination status and precautions they are taking
- CPR and First-Aid certifications
- Willing to provide transportation
If you like what you see and think the caregiver is a match for your family, send them a message to ask a few questions. Once you’re ready to book your first Care Date, simply click “book me” to send a request.
Interview to find the best match
A great way to get to know a caregiver before booking them is to use the interview feature in the Joshin app! Before the interview, take some time to prepare a list of questions to help guide the conversation. Remember that the interview is a two-way street – so make sure to leave some time for the caregiver to ask you some questions of their own. When you’re ready to interview, you’ll both need to click on the video icon in the chatbox to join a video call.
Here are some questions to ask during an interview:
- What is your experience caring for individuals with special needs?
- Why are you passionate about being a special needs caregiver?
- What qualities make you a good fit for this job?
- Tell me about a challenging time while caregiving and how you overcame that challenge.
- What are some of your interests/ what do you like to do in your free time?
- Confirm they have the availability to meet your care needs this summer.
